There will be a three-hour workshop in the morning, followed by 15-minute one-to-one sessions in the afternoon, alongside an extended opportunity to write.

The course is run by Dr Sheena Wilkinson, Royal Literary Fund consultant fellow. Sheena has extensive experience in working with students in the health sciences, including running academic writing workshops. Her approach is creative and interactive, aimed to get you thinking about what motivates you as a writer, and to give you various tools and tips to become a more successful communicator.

The morning workshop will cover:

  • Understanding your style options and how to develop your voice as a writer
  • Refining your structure: thinking about your reader
  • Tips and tools for editing and overcoming writers’ block

The afternoon one-to-one sessions will be 15 minutes each. Sheena will give you individual feedback based on previously submitted extracts of your work. During this time, the other students can remain in a calm, productive working environment and carry on with practical writing activities. This is the opportunity to make progress on your thesis, your plan, your reading or whatever you decide. Please bring any supporting materials you may want to refer to.

Deadline for applications: Tuesday 17 October 2023 at midnight.

Please read the eligibility criteria before completing the online form.
